 Savannah Region Has Numerous Business Opportunities – Mr. Ashong – lartey Edward

The Director of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr. Ashong-Lartey Edward, stated that the Savannah region has several economic potential, thus the need for sensitization. He said this at the first GIPC regional sensitization meeting in Damongo, the Savannah regional capital, On May 24th, 2022.


The Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC) was established by an act of parliament, the Ghana Investment Promotion Center Act, 2013 (Act 865), as a government agency charged with encouraging and promoting investment in Ghana, with the goal of creating an attractive incentives framework as well as a responsive, predictable, and convenient environment.


GIPC establishes clear standards and norms for businesses and individuals when dealing with customers, regulatory bodies, and government authorities.

According to Mr. Ashong-Lartey Edward, Director of Investor Services Division, the "regional sensitization tour (RST) is targeted at satisfying the local content part of GPIC's promotion and targeting operations", “GIPC seeks out prospects and markets them to locations, foreign investors, and other interested parties.”However, we believe there is much we can achieve locally, therefore the regional sensitization program is designed to raise awareness of GIPC, its services, and how to expand enterprises," he stated.

Mr. Ashong-Lartey stated that the Savannah region offers several prospects, and that the GIPC will assist stakeholders in identifying and marketing these opportunities to potential investors, both Ghanaians and foreigners. He went on to say that the region's economic opportunities must be taken advantage of, and that the best way to do so is through a methodical process that finds, profiles, and markets initiatives to possible investors. It becomes easier for investors to come into the region once these projects are thoroughly documented.


Kwesi Baah Saasi, the regional Planning and Economic Director, gave the speech on behalf of Savannah regional minister Saeed Muhazu Jibreel.


"The Savannah Region, as a new region, is blessed with a lot of opportunities, but regrettably, most of our people have yet to take full advantage of these prospects," the Savannah Regional Minister bemoaned. This is why events like this are so important for diverse actors to comprehend and gain the knowledge they need to take advantage of the numerous opportunities.


The minister emphasized the region's potential and business opportunities "In terms of land mass, the Savannah region is Ghana's largest region. In terms of investment, it has provided the region with significant comparative and competitive advantages."


Some of the investment potential includes livestock production, agriculture, construction of irrigation projects on the Black And White Volta Rivers, mineral exploration, hydrocarbon extraction, tourism and culture, cement production, and real estate development.


Mr. Sumani, the president of the Damongo cashew farmers' association, commended GIPC for holding such a workshop to educate members on various ideas, opportunities, and how to collaborate with GIPC to connect them with the necessary investors.

"The sensitization has aided many of us cashew farmers and other agribusiness entrepreneurs because it has broadened our ideas and given us ideas on how to invest in different sectors," he said.


"This has also opened our eyes as to where we can register and work with investors to bring additional development to the region," he continued.


Adam Christy was also ecstatic about how the initiative will assist her in growing her business by cooperating with the Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC).

"It's incredibly important to me as an entrepreneur because it will quickly connect me to investors; it will help me find assistants and investors for my business; and it will also allow my business to develop because I've learned so much from the program," she added.
