 GCRN: Empower Young Generation For A Prosperous Future - NYA

The National Youth Authority (NYA) of Ghana is calling on stakeholders and individuals to empower the youth for a better future.


 The call was made during the National Youth Policy Dissemination Dialogue Session at Mampong, Anagkazo in the Eastern Region of Ghana on 11th August, 2022.


The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the national youth authority, Mr. Enam in his welcome address said the board in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports is developing this youth policy which will cut across all departments and meet the needs of all youth in the country, in terms of education and all sectors.

He said the policy is set to attain it's goal and vision in the next ten (10) years to come, he also added that the policy inherited was more or less a strategic plan and said the current policy will put in place all necessary policies to reduce the unemployment in the country.


In a presentation on the youth policy and the policy implementation, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Adams, leader of the National Youth Policy working group, said the policy used critical approaches in developing the current policy in oder to meet the needs of the youth; a Scientific and broad base approach, a Comparative deductions approach, In-depth inferences approach, local national and internal synchronization and numerous variance analysis approach and many more.

He lamented about the fact that, great number of youth that are left behind without jobs, education in both formal and informal jobs and education as well. He reiterated that majority of youth have attained higher education without ideas to create jobs, attributing it to our weak educational system and  hence the need for critical policies to address the issue.


In plenary, miss Pigru Freda,  of the Ghana Community Radio Network (GCRN) asked if  Community level consultations were carried out in the review process of the National Youth Policy and weather the NYA has a plan for localizing the reviewed policy siting that even the SDGs that should be global goals and the Youth Policy it self is not known by majority of community members particularly the Youth.  Responding to the questions raised by miss Freda, concerned Alhaji Saani lamented that not only the rural communities but majority of educated youth are ignorant about the SDGs. He added that his policy is going to meet all youth from the grassroots and that there exist a communication strategy pending a detailed communication plan.


Alhaji Sani also outlined some policy issues that hinder youth people in their everyday lives, which includes; High rate of poverty and vulnerability among youth, financial exclusion among youth people, the gap between knowledge acquired and knowledge on the practical grounds also poor status among young parents and their children.

On the vision and goal for the policy from 2022 to 2032, he related it to the theme for the policy, which states; "Benefit for youth involve; Together for a prosperous future. The vision include; Empowered young generation, creating sustainable opportunities for development" And the goal; "to develop creative and innovative youth appropriately equipped with sense of responsibility, patriotism and national pride with advanced technology"

He concluded by saying that for a policy to be successful it must have; core values, core principles and guided principles.


The occasion was attended by delegates from Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Youth Authority, Youth group across the country, organizations, NGOs and  others.
